Haward, Mickglyee Sandakan Sugandoi champs

SANDAKAN: Haward Elish Anggin emerged as champion of the 2025 Sandakan Sugandoi Kaamatan, while Dellouvah Hewailee Roddy and A Fadle Patrick placed second and third respectively in the event held at the Sandakan community hall, here, recently.

Haward received a cash prize of RM3,000, while Dellouvah took home RM2,000, and A Fadle received RM1,000. All winners also received trophies and other accompanying prizes.

Other awards presented included Buvozoi Sugandoi (Best Vocal) to Dellouvah, Unduk Sugandoi (Best Appearance) to Misnalia Muhinin, Best Performance to Jerlyn Joan Jenius, and Most Popular Participant to A Fadle Patrick.

Mickglyee received RM1,000, Coby received RM800, and Adriyellson received RM500 along with trophies and additional prizes.

Coby was also named as the winner of the Most Promising Sugandoi Dazanak category.

The event was officiated by Karamunting State Assemblyman, Datuk George Hiew Vun.

In his speech, George emphasized that efforts and dedication to uplifting cultural heritage are highly valued and should be emulated.

“It’s important for us to continue preserving and expanding our cultural legacy,” he said.

He said such competitions do not only help discover new talents but also ensure that these traditions remain alive and are passed on to future generations.

George believes that platforms such as the Sugandoi Kaamatan competition can inspire young people to better appreciate and take pride in their own cultural arts.

Also present were Sandakan Municipal Council President cum Chairman of the 2025 Sandakan Kaamatan Festival Organizing Committee, Walter Kenson, and Chairperson of the Sandakan Sugandoi Kaamatan Subcommittee, Rhina Madais.
