Hayden Panettiere’s death investigation has been closed by police.
The Nashville star, 36, was found unresponsive at a South Carolina home in August.
Last month, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office stated in a report that Panettiere died of “toxic effects” of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine.
Now, the Greenville Police Department have closed the investigation and ruled Panettiere’s death an accident “based on the Medical Examiner's determination and the findings of the investigation.”
The Independent has reached out to the Greenville Police Department for comment.

Police in Greenville, South Carolina, said officers “responded to a report of an unresponsive female” on August 16, at around 1:50 p.m. ET. Upon arrival, officers found Panettiere in cardiac arrest, the coroner’s report said. After resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 p.m.
“At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,” the report said.
Her on-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach, were with her when she died, according to a police report viewed by The Independent.
The two called 911 when Panettiere was dying, the report stated. Officers recorded that Zach was emotional as emergency services worked to save Panettiere’s life, but that Brian only became emotional after she was officially declared dead. The report also stated that Brian turned over a “bag of medication” belonging to Panettiere to investigators.
Panettiere’s death was confirmed by her father, Skip.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” Skip said in a statement to ABC News. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
In the weeks following her death, Panettiere’s former fiancé and father of her daughter, Wladimir Klitschko, requested temporary guardianship of the actor’s estate on behalf of their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, and shared his concerns that Panettiere’s belongings have been mishandled.
Documents filed earlier in October read that Klitschko “believes that a non-family member previously connected to Hayden sold certain items belonging to Hayden, believed to include jewelry, to a pawn shop,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Klitschko, 50, said that the pawn shop has refused to disclose specific information about the items without police contact — leading to his worries that remaining items could be “sold, transferred or otherwise rendered unrecoverable.”
On October 8, Klitschko was appointed temporary guardian of Kaya's estate until a long-term administrator can be appointed.
