KUALA LUMPUR – The 2026 National Day Prime Minister’s Address Ceremony, scheduled for this Sunday (Aug 30), will be relocated from Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) due to the prevailing haze conditions.

The National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2026 Celebration Working Committee under the Communications Ministry said in a statement today that the venue change was made as a precautionary measure to safeguard the safety, health and comfort of guests and members of the public, while ensuring the ceremony proceeds smoothly, Bernama reported.

"The relocation of the venue does not affect the content and spirit of the 2026 National Day celebration, but is a responsible step to ensure that the event can be held in a more controlled and comfortable environment.

"The government will continue to monitor the haze situation and the development of air quality from time to time," the statement said.

The committee added that a decision on whether the National Day parade would proceed as planned would be made based on assessments of the current situation, as well as advice and recommendations from the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Department of Environment and the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

"The public is advised to always be aware of the latest haze situation and obtain information and health advice through official MOH channels," the statement said. - August 27, 2026
