Scammers are a bane in society as they go around harassing people and concocting stories with the hopes of fleecing unsuspecting victims.
However, not all attempts go exactly according to plan, just like how one scammer found out in an embarrassing fashion.
‘I’m pregnant with your dad’s child’
In a Threads post which has garnered over 24,000 likes at the time of writing, the OP wrote that he received a call from the scammer, who asked whether he knew of someone named Ismail.
When the OP said that Ismail was his father, the scammer said: “I hope you won’t be shocked, but I’m pregnant with your dad’s child. Is he there right now?
This left the OP extremely confused, who then blurted out to the scammer:
Huh? But my dad passed away 11 years ago!”
Upon hearing the OP’s reply, the scammer immediately hung up, causing the OP and his younger sibling to descend into a fit of laughter.
Netizens were also amused by the incident, with some joking that the OP now had to welcome an extra step-sibling out of the blue.
One shared how he received a call from a scammer claiming that his dad, who passed on years ago, was detained at a police station in Penang. However, he didn’t take the bait and told the scammer: “How can it be? Did you dig my dad out of his grave?”
While the scam attempt didn’t succeed, just a friendly reminder: don’t simply answer calls from numbers you don’t recognise!
