“Headache after headache” – S’porean Calls Out ‘Inefficiencies’ in M’sia When Trying to Open a Bank Account

A Threads post by a Singaporean woman caught the attention of netizens recently, after she vented her frustrations about the headaches she endured in setting up a bank account in Malaysia.

Calling out the “inefficiencies” of the whole process, the post has garnered many reactions from online users, mostly Malaysians, who share their two cents on the matter.

In the post, @bigprisc asserted that as a Singaporean, she is “not used to inefficiencies in other countries”.

She further revealed that she is trying to set up a bank account in Malaysia, and the whole ordeal is giving her “headache after headache”.

However, the whole process was made bearable thanks to the really nice people helping her, including those at the unspecified bank’s branch and call centre.

Malaysians share their two cents about the post in the replies

In the replies, many Malaysians flooded with comments to share their thoughts on @bigprisc‘s frustrations.

One commenter turned the tables on @bigprisc, saying that he had the same experience when trying to open a bank account in Singapore.

Meanwhile, another commenter criticised her for blaming the whole country for one problem at the bank, sarcastically labelling this as a “high level of critical thinking”.

Besides that, one Singaporean said that maybe her issue was due to the documents she used, as the commenter revealed that they easily opened a bank account in Malaysia in less than half an hour.

Several other commenters asserted that setting up a bank account in Malaysia is actually easy compared to other countries such as Italy, France or Egypt.

The woman didn’t expect her rant to go viral and urged Malaysians to calm down

In a follow-up post, @bigprisc said that she didn’t expect a simple rant would blow up like it did and urged Malaysians to calm down.

She asserted,

“Relax, guys. I love Malaysia, and the people who helped me were awesome. Doesn’t make the system any less frustrating, though.”
