BEAUFORT: The Malaysian Headmasters Association (PGBM) collaborated with teachers and staff to organise a gotong-royong (communal work) to clean schools affected by floods in the Gadong Zone.
Its chairman, who is also SK Bentuka Headmaster, Osman Pudin, said, PGBM along with cleaning staff from respective schools, mobilised efforts to assist fellow headmasters whose schools were affected by the floods as early as 7am.
“This morning, we carried out a gotong-royong to clean the school compound at SK Suasa, and the mission to help other affected schools will continue,” he said when contacted by Daily Express on Friday.
Also present during the gotong-royong were SK Gadong Headmaster Marip Yusop, SK Batandok Headmaster Hinawati Jafar, SK Kabajang Headmaster Mikri @ Osman, and SK Suasa Headmaster Norashimah Thanin.
Osman said, with great dedication, the school community worked to clean up the schools, particularly removing mud, to ensure a comfortable learning environment for students, teachers, and staff.
“The schools utilised water from storage tanks and pipe supplies, as well as hoses, to clean verandas and school assembly areas,” he said.
According to him, SK Lago and SK Bangkalalak, as well as SK Lupak, SK Garama, SK Suasa, and SK Jabang in the district, were among the schools that were severely impacted by the floods.
“In addition to strengthening bonds among teachers, this initiative also served as a morale booster for fellow headmasters and staff, encouraging them to remain resilient in facing this disaster,” he said.
Osman also said that several student documents and archived files were damaged by the floods.
