The government is pushing more states to stop giving out licenses to places that sell vapes and e-cigarettes, similar to what states like Terengganu, Selangor, and many others have already done.
“We hope more states will choose not to issue licenses for vape shops,” said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad during a press conference about the Lung Health Initiative Malaysia 2025-2030.
“If licenses are issued, they must strictly follow the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024.”
When asked about a possible nationwide ban, Dzulkefly mentioned that the federal government is focusing on regulatory enforcement after passing the Act.
“We’ve taken a strong stance on regulating tobacco-related products. That’s the federal government’s position,” he said.
“At the same time, we support state governments that decide not to issue vape sales licenses. Let’s work together on this.”
Dzulkefly also noted that laws can change over time. “We will keep reviewing the situation,” he explained.
