THE committal hearing against Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and activist Mona Din over alleged contempt of court has been scheduled to begin on 1 December at the Papar Sessions Court, sitting at the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex.
The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) confirmed that the court had granted permission to initiate proceedings on 23 October.
"The cause papers for the committal application for contempt of court were served to Che Muna Din early on 1 November at her residence in Shah Alam and to Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal on the afternoon of 3 November 2025 in Tawau.
“Both respondents are required to file statements pursuant to Order 52 Rule 3(2) of the 2012 Court Rules along with supporting affidavits within 14 days," the AGC said in a statement on Tuesday.
The case was fixed for hearing on 1 December.
On 23 October, Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan approved an ex parte application by the prosecution to commence contempt proceedings against Mohd Shafie and Mona, also known as Che Muna Din, over statements they made regarding the inquest into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Previously, Mohd Shafie, who is also a former Chief Minister of Sabah, described the death of the 13-year-old in Sandakan as a murder and questioned the procedures of the police investigation and the forensic pathologist.
Meanwhile, Mona Din is alleged to have posted material deemed contemptuous of court on her Facebook page, on 4 September in connection with the inquest.
In her post, she challenged the testimony of the first inquest witness, Dr Jessie Hiu, a forensic pathologist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital. - November 4, 2025
