Heart attack suspected cause of collision at ampang traffic lights

A DRIVER who suffered a suspected heart attack lost control of his vehicle, leading to a multi-car collision at a traffic light junction on Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, Chief of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), said authorities were alerted to the incident after a video of the crash circulated on social media.

"Initial investigations found the accident occurred at around 11am the day before yesterday, involving a 49-year-old local woman driving a Jaecoo 7 sport utility vehicle (SUV).

"A Toyota Caldina, driven by a 57-year-old local man, came from the opposite direction and struck the front of the victim’s vehicle," he said in a statement.

The impact caused the woman’s vehicle to reverse into a Lexus RX200T, which was being driven by a 30-year-old local man.

Preliminary investigations indicate the driver of the Toyota Caldina lost control of the vehicle after suffering a heart attack.

"The driver was found to be in stable condition when he later met with the investigating officer.

"Only the driver of the Jaecoo 7 sustained minor injuries," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - June 2, 2025
