In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage, police in Kajang are actively seeking three local men suspected of burning a kitten at the motorcycle parking area of Flat Sri Kenari, Sungai Ramal Baru. The heartless act, captured on CCTV, has drawn condemnation from the community and animal welfare advocates alike.
Kajang District Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaid Hassan revealed that the incident came to light when a 63-year-old woman filed a police report after witnessing the horrifying act. Reviewing the CCTV footage, authorities determined that the gruesome incident occurred around 1 pm on Monday.
"Two of the three men, loitering at the motorcycle parking lot, doused the kitten with fuel before igniting it. They callously watched as the helpless creature ran in flames," Mohd Zaid recounted in a statement.
Fortunately, a resident of the flat spotted the burning kitten and rushed to its aid, extinguishing the flames with water. The injured feline was then taken to a private animal clinic in Ampang, where it is currently undergoing treatment for second-degree burns.
"The community's swift response and compassion towards the suffering animal are commendable," Mohd Zaid acknowledged, highlighting the importance of collective action in combating such acts of cruelty.
Efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice are underway, with authorities actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects. The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which addresses cruelty to animals. If convicted, the offenders could face up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
The incident has reignited discussions surrounding animal welfare laws and the need for stricter penalties to deter such acts of cruelty. Advocates are calling for justice not only for the innocent victim but also for all animals vulnerable to abuse and neglect.
As the search for justice continues, the community stands united in condemning such despicable acts and advocating for the protection of all living creatures. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of compassion and empathy in building a more humane society, where every life is valued and respected.
