  • A technical issue grounded a number of flights at major UK airports, including Heathrow and Gatwick, causing severe delays for travellers on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Passengers flying from UK or EU airports, or using British or European carriers, are protected by regulations detailing airline obligations during travel disruptions.
  • Airlines are legally required to provide duty of care, including meals, refreshments and overnight hotel accommodation, regardless of what caused the delay or cancellation.

  • Passengers whose flights are delayed by five hours or more have the right to cancel their journey and claim a full refund within a week.
