Heathrow warns of disruption at two terminals due to flooding

Heathrow has warned of disruption in Terminals 2 and 3 as a result of flooding in its terminal area.

Passengers travelling to or from those terminals have been urged not to travel by road, where flooding has resulted in ongoing road closures, the airport said.

Instead, passengers have been advised to take the tube or train services to the airport.

The disruption has hit passengers amid the school summer holidays, which sees hundreds of thousands of customers pass through the airport at peak times.

Those who need to take the car to the airport are requested to park at Terminals 4 or 5 and take a rail service to their correct terminal.

Heathrow said travellers should take the “Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line rail services where possible”.

It added: “Any passengers that must travel by car must use Park and Ride, head to Terminals 4 or 5 and take free rail services from there, or change at local rail stations. Please allow extra time for your journey.

“Our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, we apologise for any disruption caused.”

It comes days after Elizabeth Line services to the airport were severely disrupted after a tunnel was closed for safety reasons.

On Monday, Network Rail said a “major disruption” was expected after services between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 were suspended all morning.

This week, Heathrow was overtaken by South Korea’s Incheon Airport to become the world’s busiest for international passenger traffic.

The airport, located about 30 miles west of Seoul, served 38.4 million international passengers for the first six months of this year, according to preliminary data gathered by the Airports Council International (ACI), the global trade body for airports.

Incheon International Airport overtook London’s Heathrow Airport, which ranked second with 37.8 million passengers, followed by Singapore’s Changi Airport with 34.5 million.
