Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is expected to see heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds from July 9 to 10.

According to a statement posted on the Meteorological Department’s website, Saturday, a low pressure system in western Philippines is expected to move towards eastern Vietnam from July 9 to 13.

The forecast is based on MET analysis using the Malaysia Weather Research and Forecasting Model (MET - WRF), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) and the Global Forecast System (GFs).

This situation has the potential to bring strong westerly winds and can cause hurricane lines, resulting in heavy rains with thunderstorms and strong winds in northern Sarawak (Bintulu, Miri and Limbang), western Sabah and Labuan from July 9-10 and northern states in the peninsula from July 11-13.

High Wind and Rough Sea Warnings (Categories One and Two) have also been issued in the South China Sea, effective July 9 until the end of the forecast period
