KEMABONG: Residents of Kampung Tinura were cut off from Kemabong town and Tenom after multiple landslides triggered by continuous heavy rain late Sunday night rendered the main road impassable.

A villager, Usup Antawor, said about 10 landslides occurred along the Kampung Tinura road, blocking all types of vehicles from passing through up to the Bakuku junction.

He said the incident also disrupted communication lines and electricity supply after several power poles collapsed due to the soil movement.

Usup added that he had to walk about two kilometres to obtain mobile phone coverage to report the situation to the relevant authorities, including the Daily Express.

He said Public Works Department crews began clearing works after an on-site inspection by Tenom MP Riduan Rubin, Tenom District Officer Alexander Liew, Kemabong Assistant District Officer Zakariah Jamal, security forces and related agencies.
