Heavy storms hit northern, central Sarawak, causing flash floods

MIRI – Turbulent storms in northern and central regions of Sarawak in the last 24 hours have caused flash floods in several districts, especially Miri, Limbang, Bintulu, Marudi, Subis, Niah, Mukah and Dalat.

In Miri and the adjacent Subis district, heavy storms caused flash floods in low-lying areas last night and this morning.

Additionally, trees were uprooted by strong winds in several residential areas in Miri.

Civil Defence Unit chief for Miri, Capt Usman Harto, today told reporters here that his unit has been receiving calls for help from affected residents for the past 24 hours.
