Helicopter transporting health workers crash in Cameron Highlands

PETALING JAYA: A helicopter with six people onboard has crashed in Cameron Highlands, according to a report by China Press.

The six people comprise the pilot, a doctor and four medical staff. The incident was said to have occurred at 1.15pm, with the helicopter owned by a private company.

The condition of the six people is not known.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said it was notified of the air accident involving the Airbus AS 355 F2 helicopter at 1.03pm near Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands.

It said search-and-rescue efforts were ongoing, with a land unit dispatched to the location within 19 minutes after CAAM was first notified.

“A safety investigation will be conducted by the air accident investigation bureau under the transport ministry,” said CAAM CEO Chester Voo.

He said the aircraft was operated by Layang Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd and it was headed to Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, from Kampung Gawin, Gua Musang, Kelantan.
