When, for instance, she was asked as to how she would live differently if no one were to judge her, she would not, in fact, change anything and that she lives by each day. She also gave a message of resilience to those watching all over the globe: “Keep fighting … no matter where you come from. I stand here today because I want a change, I want to make history, and that’s what I’m doing tonight,” CNN quoted her as saying.
The journey to the crown began with a shortlist of 30 contestants, determined through preliminary events, including a vibrant national costume showcase. Contestants competed in swimwear and evening gowns before the top five finalists faced tough questions on topics like leadership and resilience.
The final five included Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria (first runner-up), Maria Fernanda Beltran of Mexico (second runner-up), Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, and Ileana Marquez Pedroza of Venezuela. Pedroza, a 28-year-old mother, made history as the first mother to reach the top five following the removal of restrictions on married women and mothers.
