After keeping fans hooked week after week, season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians finally concluded its eight-episode run on 21 January. But does that mark the end of Percy’s journey as well? Thankfully no, because Disney+ has already renewed the fantasy series for a third instalment. So, if you’re eager to know what’s coming next, here’s what we know, so far, about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3, including its release year and likely plot.
Created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E Steinberg, the fan-favourite series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is adapted from Riordan’s bestselling YA fantasy novel series of the same name. While the first instalment was based on The Lightning Thief, season 2 covered the events of The Sea of Monsters, the author’s second book in the series.
Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows Percy (played by Walker Scobell) as he sails to the Sea of Monsters to save his best friend, Grover Underwood (played by Aryan Simhadri). However, things soon turn dangerous when Luke Castellan (played by Charlie Bushnell) decides to resurrect Kronos (played by Nick Boraine) and destroy Camp Half-Blood. This sends Percy, Grover and Annabeth Chase (played by Leah Sava Jeffries) on a quest to save their beloved camp, with help from Clarisse La Rue (played by Dior Goodjohn) and Percy’s cyclops half-brother, Tyson (played by Daniel Diemer).
So, what will be the plot for the third instalment? And when will Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 be released?

Spoilers ahead!
The second instalment concludes with a thrilling showdown between Luke and Percy. During their battle, Luke manages to disarm Percy and is moments away from killing him when Tyson comes to his rescue. This gives Clarisse the chance to throw the Golden Fleece onto the tree, helping Thalia (played by Tamara Smart) return to her original form.
Soon after, Chiron (played by Glynn Turman) reveals a shocking piece of information about Thalia to Percy, Annabeth and Grover. It turns out the Furies didn’t attack Thalia all those years ago; instead, they delivered a message to her on Hades’ behalf, telling her about Zeus’s (played by Courtney B. Vance) plan to send her to fulfil the Great Prophecy. When confronted, Zeus, in a fit of anger, turned Thalia into a tree.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 ends with Percy realising that Thalia has woken up. The finale closes with Percy asking the audience, “You guys get nightmares, right? Not like mine. Because mine just woke up.”
