PETALING JAYA: The number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases has continued to drop over the week, with infections going down by 22.9% to 13,080 compared to 16,954 reported the previous week.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 95,924 HFMD cases have been reported this year, a 3.1-fold increase compared to 2019.
He said Selangor continues to have the highest number of cases with a total of 26,799, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (10,739), Perak (9,744), Johor (6,326) and Kelantan (6,153).
Three children had been admitted to intensive care, with two still undergoing observation and one discharged.
“Although there has been a decline in HFMD cases over the past two weeks, members of the public need to practise preventive measures to protect themselves and their family members,” Noor Hisham said in a statement.
