High-on-drugs driver causes 7-vehicle crash

TAWAU: Police arrested a 32-year-old Perodua Kenari driver who was found to be high on drugs after he caused seven vehicles to be involved in an accident at Batu 3, Jalan Apas, around 5.07pm, on Monday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the accident also caused a motorcyclist, 26, to be injured on both hands and knees.

He said police received information about the accident at 5.15pm.

Investigation at the scene found that the incident happened when the suspect was driving a Kenari from the direction of Jalan Apas towards town.

Read more “When approaching the scene, the suspect crashed into three parked vehicles as well as three other vehicles, including a motorcycle,” Jasmin said.

He said the suspect who was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident was arrested for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 44 (1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
