As the investigation into the alleged removal of former governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud from a private hospital unfolds, the Sarawak police commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata, has officially confirmed that a report has been filed against Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib, Taib's wife. The case is currently under scrutiny according to Section 336 of the Penal Code, which addresses causing harm by acts that endanger life or personal safety.
Commissioner Mancha Ata, in a statement, urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing or speculating on the incident, emphasizing the potential consequences for those disseminating false information. He also highlighted the legal repercussions, cautioning against defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and offenses related to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, specifically Section 233, which pertains to the use of network facilities for transmitting offensive or annoying communication.
The report filed at nearly 2 am on Sunday alleges that Raghad, against medical advice, removed her husband from the hospital, disregarding recommendations for continued treatment. The complainant asserts that the hospital possesses a copy of a letter from a law firm instructing Raghad to notify them if Taib were to be discharged, further complicating the situation.
The incident has gained traction on social media platforms, with Zulhaidah Suboh, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak deputy women’s chief, sharing a copy of the police report. Zulhaidah Suboh, in her post, calls for unity among Sarawakians, regardless of political affiliations, urging collective efforts to prevent Raghad from leaving the country until the police investigation concludes. She stresses the importance of pressing charges and ensuring justice if Raghad is found guilty.
As the situation continues to evolve, authorities are diligently examining the circumstances surrounding the former governor's removal from the hospital, and the public remains vigilant for updates on the investigation.
