Anwar’s plan to raise Budget 2027 defence allocation reflects the government’s commitment to modernise the MAF, strengthen readiness and improve welfare.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s plan to increase the defence allocation under Budget 2027 reflects the government’s commitment to modernising the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), said Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman.
Malek Razak said the MAF appreciated the government’s commitment to strengthening the force’s development, operational readiness and the welfare of its personnel and their families.
“This commitment demonstrates the government’s determination to support efforts to develop and modernise the MAF into a superior force and an integrated deterrent serving as the nation’s primary line of defence,” he told Bernama today.
He said the additional allocation would support the modernisation of the MAF’s assets and equipment in line with its Future Force strategic development plan.
He said improving the welfare and quality of life of MAF personnel would also boost morale and enable them to carry out their duties with greater commitment.
Earlier today, Anwar said at the Semarak Kenegaraan Programme with the MAF at Terendak Camp, Melaka, that the government would seek to increase the defence allocation under Budget 2027 to strengthen the force’s readiness.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said that the increased allocation would also encompass personnel welfare, including efforts to improve housing quarters, construct a new hospital and maintain basic utilities such as water supply.
At the same event, Anwar also announced that the government has agreed in principle to simplify and expedite the promotion process for MAF and Royal Malaysia Police personnel, in line with other public service schemes.
