Police anticipate a surge in traffic tonight as motorists rush to take advantage of the free toll offer on all highways.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that heavy traffic is expected mainly at specific toll plazas. He noted that many road users, particularly those in the Chinese community, have likely departed earlier for Chinese New Year celebrations, while others are seizing the opportunity to benefit from the toll exemption ending tonight.
Based on aerial traffic surveys conducted from the Gombak Toll Plaza to Bentong, Pahang, and from the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza southward, traffic flow appears to be smooth. Razarudin shared this information with Bernama after conducting aerial observations using a police helicopter at various toll plazas, considering the commencement of school holidays and the impending Chinese New Year festivities.
Expanding on the matter, Razarudin revealed that 6,000 police personnel have been mobilized to manage highway traffic. These personnel have been strategically stationed along the highways, paying particular attention to hotspot and blackspot areas prone to frequent accidents.
In light of the impending end of the toll exemption and the festive season, authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic. With a significant deployment of police personnel and careful monitoring of traffic conditions, efforts are underway to mitigate congestion and prevent accidents on the highways.
As motorists make their way to their destinations, cooperation and adherence to traffic regulations are urged to facilitate a hassle-free journey for all road users. Additionally, travelers are advised to plan their trips accordingly, considering the anticipated increase in traffic volume during this period.
In conclusion, heightened police presence and vigilant monitoring aim to maintain orderliness and safety on the highways amidst the surge in traffic activity driven by both the toll exemption and the festive season celebrations.
