In the early hours of the morning, a tragic road crash unfolded at Km288.1 of the North-South North Highway near Gopeng, leading to the untimely demise of two lorry drivers. The incident, which occurred today, involved a total of seven vehicles, comprising three lorries and four cars.

The unfortunate drivers lost their lives when the collision occurred, with one lorry carrying metal structures and the other loaded with sugar. Tragically, they were both trapped in their seats, succumbing to the severity of the crash at the scene. The impact of the collision not only claimed lives but also resulted in the spillage of sugar from one of the lorries, causing additional complications at the crash site.

The aftermath of the accident caused extensive traffic jams, stretching for several kilometers in both directions of the highway. The congestion created challenges for commuters, adding to the gravity of the situation. To address the aftermath, the Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, confirmed ongoing cleaning efforts in the affected area.

As the news of the incident spread, PLUS Malaysia Berhad, through its X account, provided crucial updates on the traffic conditions. According to their statement, traffic at the location of the crash was at a standstill. Commuters were advised to take alternative routes, exiting at the Simpang Pulai Toll Plaza (southbound) and Gopeng Toll Plaza (northbound). However, it was highlighted that heavy traffic was expected at these toll plazas, urging travelers to plan their journeys accordingly.

The collaboration of emergency response teams and traffic management authorities has been crucial in addressing the aftermath of this tragic incident. The community is left mourning the loss of two lives and grappling with the disruptions caused by the collision. As cleaning efforts continue and traffic rerouting measures are in place, the incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the unpredictable nature of accidents on our highways.
