PENAMPANG: A man hijacked a retired pilot’s Toyota Hilux with his 88-year-old mother still inside after staging a road accident near Kampung Notorus on Thursday.

The incident took place at about 11.45am on the Jalan Tambunan–Kota Kinabalu road when the victim, John Peter Otigil, 64, was travelling with his mother and sister.

Their vehicle was rear-ended by a stolen Proton Saga, and after the driver claimed he had fallen asleep, John and his sister got out to inspect the damage.
