In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a Special Task Force (STF) team from the Shimla field unit on Friday seized 101 grams of heroin from a man on the Laxmipur-Jogo road in Nalagarh.
The accused has been identified as Pawan Billa. Confirming the seizure, Shimla STF Additional SP Ramesh Sharma said the accused had been under surveillance following inputs regarding his alleged involvement in drug trafficking in the area.
Given Nalagarh’s proximity to Punjab, authorities said the industrial belt has emerged as a vulnerable zone for the movement and sale of narcotics. Acting on specific intelligence, an STF team led by ASI Parmesh Kumar intercepted the accused while he was travelling on foot carrying the contraband in a bag.
Police said further investigations are underway to trace both backward and forward linkages of the drug network. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered.
