
The Dehra police in Kangra district arrested a father-son duo and recovered 883 grams of charas from their car during checking on Thursday.
The accused were identified as Bhikham Ram (55) and his son Kamlesh Kumar (26), both residents of Bhalei village in Churah tehsil of Chamba district. The duo was travelling in a car when the police intercepted them at Surani in the Khundian police station area.
Dehra Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudharya said that a police team deployed on routine traffic checking stopped the car on suspicion and recovered 883 grams of charas during search. The contraband was seized and the accused were arrested.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at the Khundian police station and an investigation was launched.
The SP said that the police had launched a sustained drive against drug trafficking and no person involved in narcotics peddling would be spared. “The police are maintaining a strict vigil in Dehra subdivision and will continue to take action against drug peddlers,” he added.
The police also seized the car. The SP said that efforts were underway to establish the possible links of the accused with a larger drug network operating in the region.
60 illegal liquor bottles seized in Haripur
Meanwhile, a Dehra police team seized 60 bottles of illegal liquor during a raid at a house in the Haripur area on Thursday, ahead of the panchayat elections.
Dehra SP Mayan Chaudhary said that a Haripur police station team, on a tip-off, raided the residence of Narendra Kumar, a resident of Ward No. 6 in Haripur, and recovered 60 bottles of country-made liquor stored there illegally.
A case under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act has been registered and an investigation is underway.
