The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE), Dharamsala, has issued detailed guidelines regarding the eligibility criteria for students appearing in the Matric Second Examination following the declaration of the Class X results conducted in March.
Board Chairman Rajesh Sharma said students had been divided into different categories based on their performance in the main examination.
He said students placed under the “Essential Improvement” category would be those who had passed in at least three out of the five compulsory subjects. Such students would be allowed to appear in the second examination for the two subjects in which they had failed. If they clear both subjects, they would be declared pass. However, if they pass only one subject, they would be placed under the compartment category, while failure in both subjects would move them to the “Essential Repeat” category.
The Board further clarified that students under the Essential Improvement category would also be eligible to appear for improvement in any one of the three subjects in which they had already secured passing marks.
Dr Sharma said the “Optional Improvement” category would include students who had passed all compulsory subjects but wished to improve their scores. Such students would be allowed to reappear in a maximum of three out of the five compulsory subjects for improvement purposes.
Explaining the “Essential Repeat” category, he said students who failed to clear at least three of the five compulsory subjects would not be eligible to appear in the second examination. Such candidates would have to reappear in the main examination during the next academic session.
The HPBOSE chairman also clarified that students whose results had been declared under the “Compartment” category would be allowed to appear in the second examination under compartment rules.
