
A voter turnout of 69.16 per cent was recorded in the elections to 51 urban local bodies (ULBs), including four Municipal Corporations, held across the state on Sunday. Hamirpur district recorded the highest voter turnout at around 78 per cent, while Solan district registered the lowest at 64 per cent. Among the urban local bodies, Shri Naina Devi Ji recorded the highest turnout at 86 per cent.
Municipal councils and nagar panchayats registered a higher voter turnout than municipal corporations. While the turnout in municipal councils and nagar panchayats stood at 72.42 per cent, the four municipal corporations recorded an overall turnout of 63.44 per cent. Among the municipal corporations, Mandi recorded the highest turnout at 68.78 per cent, while the Solan MC registered the lowest at 58.32 per cent.
According to the State Election Commission, polling remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the state. A total of 1,147 candidates were in the fray for 449 wards falling under these 51 ULBs. However, elections were not held in 10 wards as candidates had already been elected unanimously, while no nomination was filed for Ward No. 7 of the Karsog Nagar Panchayat in Mandi district. In addition, all four candidates withdrew their nominations from Ward No. 14 of the Mandi Municipal Corporation.
