Following complaints by the BJP regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct, the State Election Commission (SEC) today sought a reply from the state government as to if there had been violations in this regard.
The SEC has written a letter to the Chief Secretary as to why was it was important to hold a Cabinet meeting while the poll code is on. The SEC has reportedly not set any timeframe and sought a response from the state government at the earliest.
The BJP today submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission alleging that despite the poll code being in force for the Panchayati Raj election, the state government held a Cabinet meeting on May 22.
Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan has termed the Cabinet decisions as an attempt by the Congress regime to sway voters by way of taking decisions regarding public welfare schemes. Seeking that SEC takes immediate cognisance of the matter, the BJP has demanded that the Cabinet decisions should be put to halt till the election process is over.
