
In a significant step towards social service, environmental protection and youth empowerment, the Himachal Pradesh’s Home Guards, Civil Defence and Fire services have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Himachal Cluster of Rotary International District 3080.
The Himachal Cluster of Rotary International District 3080 is a group of 18 Rotary Clubs actively engaged in community service activities across various regions of the state including Rampur Bushahr, Theog, Shimla, Solan, Nahan, Paonta Sahib, Nalagarh and Baddi.
The MoU was signed by Satwant Atwal Trevedi, Commandant General (CG), Home Guards and Civil Defence and by Dr Rita Kalra, President, Rotary Club here on Monday.
Speaking about the collaboration, the CG said joint activities such as plantation drives, environmental conservation programs, disaster management training, mock drills, awareness campaigns, workshops and community participation programmes will be organised. “Active participation from Rotary Clubs, educational institutions and local communities will also be ensured” she said.
She said along with this, joint initiatives related to environmental conservation, climate resilience, disaster preparedness and community awareness will also be organised. “This partnership will help strengthen the participation of Civil Defence volunteers, promote disaster risk reduction and environmental protection and organise training programs for youth and volunteers” she said.
“In addition, special emphasis will be laid on the effective use of community networks during emergency situations and on promoting sustainable environmental activities. Under the MoU, Rotary members and volunteers receiving Civil Defence training may also be awarded certificates by the Home Guards and Civil Defence Department. Both parties will also explore possibilities for grants, financial assistance and institutional support for activities related to this collaboration” she said.
The CG also expressed gratitude to the Himachal Cluster of Rotary International District 3080, for extending cooperation and support in this joint initiative. “This collaborative effort will make a significant contribution towards environmental protection, social awareness and the holistic development and empowerment of youth” said the CG.
