After witnessing heat wave conditions, Himachal Pradesh is set to witness a heavy spell of rain along with hail from May 29 onwards, bringing mercury down by a few notches.

The State Meteorological Centre has issued an orange weather warning alert for Shimla, Solan, Sirmour, Mandi and Kullu district, resulting in hailstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds in isolated places of these districts.

Similarly, a yellow alert has also been issued for Kangra, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts, resulting in thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in isolated places of these districts.

The centre has also predicted rain and hail for May 30, as well for which a yellow alert has been issued. Light precipitation is also expected to occur in middle and high hills of the state on May 31 and June 1 as well. During this period, minimum temperatures are expected to fall by 2°C to 3°C while maximum temperatures are very likely to fall by 2°C to 6°C, providing relief from scorching heat.

Meanwhile, the weather was mostly dry across the state during the last 24 hours. Minimum temperatures across the state were 2°C to 3°C above normal and ranged between 7°C to 26°C. Similarly, maximum temperatures were 2°C to 4°C above normal and ranged between 21°C to 44°C.

Maximum temperature in Shimla was 29°C, Dharamshala 35°C, Kangra 36.8°C, Solan 35.4°C, Mandi 37°C, Sundernagar 37.2°C, Kufri 23.2°C, Kalpa 23.8°C, Nahan 37°C, Chamba 30.8°C and Bhuntar 31.5°C.

With 43.2°C minimum temperatures, Una was the hottest place in the state while Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest as it recorded 3.9°C minimum temperature.
