The Ministry of Education clarifies that History will be taught only to Year 5 and 6 pupils in primary schools under the new 2027 curriculum.

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Education has clarified the position of the History subject under the forthcoming 2027 School Curriculum.

It stated that History will only be offered to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at the primary school level.

The ministry issued a statement today to address media reports on the subject’s offering.

It noted that Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh had provided an explanation during an oral question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.

“For the History subject, at the primary school level it is offered to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils,” the ministry’s statement said.

It added that at the secondary school level, History will be offered to students beginning in Form One.

The new curriculum is scheduled to begin next year.

It will initially involve Year 1 pupils and Form One students.
