KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 14 — The government will offer a 50 per cent toll discount nationwide for private Class 1 vehicles during the Chinese New Year holidays on Jan 27 and 28, 2025.

The discount, announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, follows the Cabinet’s approval earlier today.

“My previous announcement regarding the festive season free-toll scheme, which was originally set to end with the Christmas 2024 celebration, was based on the Cabinet’s decision on Dec 20, 2024.

“However, the Cabinet meeting today has agreed to grant a 50 per cent toll discount in conjunction with the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration, in line with the Madani Government’s agenda to promote unity and public well-being,” he said.

The move will cost the government RM20.08 million in compensation payments to toll concessionaires.

From 2023 to 2024, the government spent RM356.18 million on festive toll aid, including free-toll programmes, the minister said.

He said this year’s discount also reflects a balanced approach between easing the public burden and maintaining fiscal responsibility.

The decision was made possible by what he described as Malaysia’s “strong financial position” following subsidy rationalisation and increased investment inflows.

The discount will apply at all toll plazas except at the country’s borders — namely the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and use the MyPLUS-TTA app for real-time traffic updates.

Nanta wished all Malaysians a safe journey and a joyful Chinese New Year celebration.
