- Firefighters are continuing to tackle a subterranean peatland blaze at Holme Fen nature reserve near Peterborough that broke out on 8 August.
- The fire covers an expanse equivalent to roughly 60 football pitches, burning both above and deep beneath the ground.
- More than 80 firefighters have been involved in the operation, with crews expected to remain at the scene for the foreseeable future.
- Holme Fen is a nature reserve featuring Holme Post, which at 2.75 metres below sea level is Great Britain's lowest point of land.
- Water drawn from the River Nene to extinguish the blaze has caused river levels to drop to notably low levels, according to the Environment Agency.
