Kota Kinabalu: Digital copies of the Holy Quran were presented to 50 couples by Army Chief General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Muhammad Hafizuddin bin Jantan and Chairperson of the Army Bakat Darat Board, Puan Sri Datin Sri Hajah Hartiah binti Hamzah during an official gathering of the Malaysian Armed Forces Family Welfare Association (Bakat) members at Hotel Raia here.

“The main objective of this programme is to provide Bakat members who have converted to Islam with a deeper understanding of the religion,” Hartiah told members of the press after the event.

Hartiah highlighted that the event’s emphasis on personal and spiritual growth reflects the Army and the association’s commitment to promoting the holistic development of its members.

Speaking to reporters after the event, she noted that interactive sessions throughout the programme provided members and their spouses with a practical guidance to Islam, including performing ablution and prayers correctly, as well as reciting important surahs.

“It is hoped that this programme will serve as an example for other divisions and potentially be implemented by formations beyond Bakat,” Hartiah said.

Adding to this, General Muhammad described the initiative as a vital effort to provide comprehensive support for members and their spouses who have recently embraced Islam.

“We want to guide them in their journey of faith because we do not want them to be left without guidance,” he said.

He further emphasized, “As part of the Army, Bakat will collaborate with the military to implement programmes that benefit the wellbeing and welfare of our members and the wider community.”The gathering, organised by the 5th Infantry Division, brought together over 100 BAKAT members from Sabah and their families, alongside other military personnel, underscoring the critical role of family units within the armed forces.

“It is heartening to witness the success of this gathering, which reflects the Army’s ongoing efforts to foster deeper and more meaningful connections with the communities they serve,” Datin Haslinda added.

She stressed that by providing resources for both spiritual and personal development, the leadership reinforces the importance of strong family units in ensuring the welfare of its personnel.
