Explore Malaysia's achievements and inspirational stories

Travellers looking for more than a room key can now step into a Malaysian kitchen, living room and bedroom in the city centre. Marriott Executive Apartments® Kuala Lumpur (MEA KL) has launched Home in Malaysia, a campaign inspired by the country’s much-loved open house tradition.

Designed for extended-stay guests, business travellers, families and curious explorers, it invites visitors to experience Kuala Lumpur not simply as guests, but as temporary locals.

What Is the Home in Malaysia Campaign?

As travellers increasingly seek authentic connections with the places they visit, Home in Malaysia celebrates the everyday rituals, flavours and experiences that make the country feel like home, offering a more immersive way to discover the capital beyond a regular hotel stay.

At its heart is The Modern Malaysian Open House, which transforms one of the property’s apartment units into a contemporary Malaysian home. Much like a festive open house, it welcomes guests to explore the creativity and flavours that shape local life.

“Many travellers today are looking for more than convenience – they want a genuine connection to the places they visit,” said Grant Young, General Manager of Marriott Executive Apartments Kuala Lumpur.

“Malaysia’s open house tradition is one of the country’s most distinctive expressions of hospitality, and Home in Malaysia allows us to share that spirit with guests in a way that feels authentic and memorable. Whether they are staying for a few nights or a few months, we want guests to feel like they belong here.”

Guests move through three interactive spaces, each showcasing a different side of contemporary Malaysian life.

Kitchen: A Taste of Malaysia

In the kitchen, MEA KL’s Head Chef Parthiban Nalliah leads a hands-on Popiah Basah demonstration and workshop, sharing the flavours, techniques and stories behind one of Malaysia’s beloved street food favourites.

Living Room: Stories from Home

The living room hosts the ‘A Little Piece of Malaysia’ Postcard Bar by Kozie Krafts, where guests design personalised postcards inspired by their own interpretation of “Home in Malaysia”, using locally inspired illustrations, stamps and decorative elements.

Bedroom: Malaysia’s Favourite House Guest

In the bedroom, Wunderbath’s Oyen Bath Bomb Painting Workshop lets guests paint a bath bomb inspired by Malaysia’s beloved “Oyen” cat. Blending creativity, wellness and local humour, it turns a simple self-care ritual into a memorable keepsake.

Living Like a Local in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur

Beyond the campaign, the property pairs the flexibility of apartment-style living with premium hospitality, offering spacious accommodation, fully equipped kitchenettes, in-room laundry facilities, wellness amenities and family-friendly spaces.

Just moments from KLCC Park, the Petronas Twin Towers and the city’s leading business and lifestyle destinations, MEA KL lets guests live, work and unwind with the comfort of home.

No Malaysian welcome is complete without food. To complement the campaign, MEA KL’s Bistro Kia Peng has introduced Home in Malaysia dishes inspired by the flavours that shaped the country’s diverse food culture.

Curated by Head Chef Parthiban Nalliah, the menu gives familiar local favourites a contemporary twist. Highlights include his Coastal Curry, featuring red snapper, lady’s finger, eggplant and tomato in a rich, aromatic curry that reflects the communal spirit of Malaysian dining.

“Food has always been at the heart of Malaysian hospitality. Whether it’s a festive gathering, an open house or a simple meal shared with loved ones, food brings people together,” said Chef Parthiban.

“Through the Home in Malaysia menu, we wanted to celebrate the dishes and flavours that many Malaysians grew up with, while presenting them in a way that feels familiar, comforting and memorable for our guests.”
