KAJANG, Jan 5 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said that the investigation on the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl by a police inspector in Kedah should be allowed to undergo its “due process”.
At a press conference today, Saifuddin said that he was briefed on the matter by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani yesterday.
“I believe there is a strong basis for the police to start an investigation,” he said at the National Anti-Drugs Agency headquarters today.
According to a New Straits Times report, the victim has alleged that she was raped by the police inspector at the latter’s office at the Yan police district headquarters on December 28.
She had reportedly alleged that building up to the act, the inspector said he was going to conduct a medical exam on her, after she had initially reported being raped by her stepfather.
According to the news report, she lodged a police report on the inspector on December 31.
Yesterday, Kedah police chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad promised a thorough and transparent investigation on the case will be undertaken by senior officers from the Kedah contingent headquarters.
