Now that the festive season is upon us once again, fireworks and firecrackers are a hot topic once again. Back in February this year, we reported that the Federal Government has agreed to legalise certain types of fireworks and firecrackers to prevent the smuggling of these items into our country.

However, despite the Cabinet already agreeing to legalise fireworks and firecrackers, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution has reminded the public that the online sale of these items is still prohibited. As reported by Sinar Harian, Saifuddin stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Home Ministry will continuously monitor the situation and ensure that only authorised vendors are selling the products and that they’ve followed the guidelines prescribed by the Ministry.

Saifuddin also confirmed that his ministry has expanded the guideline for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers to include 46 types of ‘Happy Boom’ and ‘Pop-Pop’. Furthermore, the sales of these items should be done only in places that are safe.

The Home Minister further elaborated,

“Approvals to import, store and sell firecrackers are given only to 27 companies that comply with police guidelines and conditions. The Customs Department will ensure that only companies that have these permits import fireworks and firecrackers. Local councils will ensure that only sellers who have a sales permit sell these items,”
