Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed his upcoming meeting with Brian Nelson, the United States Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence. Scheduled for tomorrow, the meeting will serve as an avenue for Saifuddin to convey Malaysia's official position on the issues raised during the discussion.

Expressing his intent, Saifuddin stated, "I will meet Brian Nelson tomorrow morning, firstly to hear whatever he has to say." Following this, he plans to provide an official explanation addressing the matters raised after thoroughly listening to their presentation.

Saifuddin made these remarks while speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of 14 contracts, totaling RM2.156 billion, between the Home Ministry and local companies at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) Exhibition and National Security for Asia (NATSEC) 2024 Exhibition.

Earlier, international news agency Reuters reported that the top sanctions official from the US Treasury Department would visit Singapore and Malaysia.

Among the contracts signed, notable ones involve allocations for the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) amounting to RM1.574 billion, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency with RM529 million, and the National Registration Department with RM52 million.

Regarding the implementation of body cameras for PDRM personnel, Saifuddin emphasized the urgency of expediting the process rather than delaying it until next year. He expressed concern over the delays in procurement despite the availability of the budget for a considerable period.

"The budget has been available for a long time, but the procurement process has encountered several changes. So, I urge for its swift resolution. According to our timeline, we expect the first shipment of body cameras to take place in June," Saifuddin added.

As Malaysia navigates various international engagements and addresses internal security matters, such meetings and contracts play a crucial role in shaping the country's policies and initiatives. The efficient utilization of resources and timely implementation of projects, such as the deployment of body cameras for law enforcement, are essential for enhancing public safety and security.
