- Kiran Kaur, an Indian national, was sentenced to three years in prison at Southampton Crown Court in July for assisting an offender after hiding the knife her son used to murder 18-year-old university student Henry Nowak.
- Her son, Vickrum Digwa, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years in June for the murder after falsely claiming Mr Nowak had racially abused him.
- The Home Office has indicated that Kaur could face deportation from the UK under government schemes targeting foreign criminals following her conviction.
- Kaur could potentially be freed around the anniversary of the crime under the Government's early release scheme, although she is also appealing her sentence at the Court of Appeal on 5 November.
- During sentencing, Judge William Mousley KC admonished Kaur, remarking that a responsible parent would have encouraged their son to do the right thing rather than helping to conceal the weapon.
