KUALA LUMPUR: An unidentified homeless woman was found dead with severe head injuries in front of a school in Sentul.
Sentul police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the body was discovered by the public along Jalan Sentul yesterday morning.
The woman, believed to be aged between 50 and 60, was found lying with a four-centimetre wound on the right side of her head.
Medical personnel confirmed her death at the scene near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (L) Methodist Sentul.
Police have detained a 46-year-old unemployed local man in the Sentul area to assist with the investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect is believed to have used a piece of wood to strike the victim.
“The physical examination revealed a four-centimetre wound on the right side of her head above the ear and swelling on the eyelids,” Ahmad Sukarno said in a statement.
Police will apply for a remand order today to further detain the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
