Imagine opening your takeaway box, ready to dig into a plate of curry noodles, only to find something staring back at you.
That is reportedly what happened to one customer in Hong Kong except the “something” was allegedly a tiny, hairless baby rat.
A video posted on Xiaohongshu has gone viral after a customer claimed to have found what appears to be a newborn rat lying inside a takeaway meal from Wah Sister Cafe in Kwai Chung.
In the clip, the tiny pink creature can be seen next to an omelet and a serving of curry noodles.
Definitely not the kind of extra topping anyone ordered.
The post even jokingly called it a “Mickey baby”, but the comments quickly became much less amused.
Many viewers were horrified by the discovery, questioning how something as noticeable as a hairless pink rat could possibly end up in a takeaway box.
Others, however, were not entirely convinced by the video.
Some netizens pointed out that it would be difficult to imagine kitchen staff packing the food without noticing the tiny animal sitting right on top of it. As a result, plenty of commenters urged others not to jump to conclusions based on a viral clip alone.
The incident eventually caught the attention of Hong Kong's Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD).
Officials inspected the restaurant and reportedly found hygiene problems in some areas of the premises. However, the department also stressed that the viral video alone was not enough to establish exactly what happened.
According to the FEHD, the investigation has been limited because the person who made the complaint has not yet agreed to provide a formal statement or further information.
So for now, the biggest question remains unanswered: How did a baby rat allegedly end up in that box of curry noodles in the first place?
Until the investigation is completed, the full story remains unclear.
But one thing is certain — after seeing that video, some people may be checking their takeaway boxes a little more carefully before taking the first bite.
