HONOR Uses Its Upcoming Magic V6 Foldable To Tow An Aircraft, Setting Asian Record

HONOR has announced that its upcoming foldable flagship smartphone, the HONOR Magic V6, will launch in Malaysia on 4 June 2026. Knowing this brand, there’s always the publicity stunt bit to prove a point, and in this case the Chinese smartphone maker has claimed the title of “Heaviest Aircraft Towed by a Foldable Smartphone” under Asia Records to showcase the foldable’s durability.

HONOR Magic V6 Can Tow A Small Plane

The record itself involved towing a small Diamond DA42 Twin Star propeller aircraft across a distance of 150 meters, which, according to HONOR, weighs 1,250kg (although we looked at the plane’s documentation which pointed to slightly higher dry weight, at 1,420kg). The same foldable also towed the Ferrari F430 supercar – which weighs slightly over 1,500kg – for a distance of 30 meters as well, and there’s also demonstrations of the phone being part of the mechanical assembly for pull-up exercises.

Behind the record of the Magic V6 is HONOR’s Super Steel Hinge technology, which HONOR said delivers tensile strength of 2,800 MPa. The hinge has also undergone testing for up to 500,000 folding cycles, roughly equivalent to more than 13 years of regular daily use. HONOR stated that the foldable also incorporates an “AI-assisted bionic cushioning system” designed to distribute impact forces during accidental drops. It’s also IP68/69-rated capable of withstanding 1.5 meters of liquid submersion.

The external display is also protected by HONOR Anti-Scratch Nano Crystal Shield, which features a silicon nitride coating layer designed to improve scratch and drop resistance while reducing reflections; it is claimed that Magic V6 withstood 27,000 cycles of abrasion testing involving steel wool. The inner display, meanwhile, is equipped with ultra-thin glass for a “near-zero” crease visibility, and the panel below it has SGS 5-star certification for its low reflectivity properties.

HONOR says the Magic V6 will be available in Ferghana Red, Sunrise Gold, Ivory White and Classic Black color options, though no detailed specs has been given at this time. For that, you’ll have to watch the official launch livestream set to take place on 4 June 2026 at 8pm through the company’s official Facebook page.
