I am overjoyed and really happy to share the compelling work of Novo Amor and Studio Birthplace, where my daughter, Alea Rahim, serves as Executive Producer.
Together, they have brought to life Earth Defender, a film that is far more than a creative endeavour—it is a rallying cry for all of us who care deeply about the planet and the brave individuals risking everything to protect it.
Co-directed by indigenous filmmaker Kynan Tegar, Earth Defender merges music, storytelling, and breathtaking visuals to honour the protectors of our planet and underscore the urgency of safeguarding their rights.
Every 48 hours, another Earth Defender goes missing or is tragically murdered. The film sheds light on their silent sacrifices, urging us all to take action to support these courageous defenders and the critical ecosystems they fight to save.
Premiering on November 13th 2024, Earth Defender, shot at a village in rural Kalimantan, is a transformative experience that celebrates the resilience, passion, and profound connection these individuals have with the land. It is a poignant reminder of the power of storytelling to inspire real-world change and mobilise support for the defenders of our vanishing wilderness.
I would strongly encourage everyone to watch Earth Defender and join the movement to protect Earth’s defenders.
