MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Thursday said the rule of law should "always prevail" as she reiterated her appeal to fellow Sen. Ronald dela Rosa to respect the law.
The senator said the respect for law and legal should always prevail amid the pronouncement of Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against dela Rosa can now be enforced.
The Supreme Court had earlier rejected dela Rosa's request to stop any arrest linked to the ICC warrant. This ruling removed any legal barrier to the implementation of the warrant, the Department of Justice said.
"I reiterate our appeal to Senator Dela Rosa: respect the law, and submit and cooperate to authorities and process of law," Hontiveros said in Filipino.
"I pray for the peaceful and lawful resolution of this situation which has already affected multiple institutions, and the entire country itself. May justice be served," she added.
