MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Risa Hontiveros urged the netizens, especially those who were trying to "ship" or pair her with Senate President (SP) Win Gatchalian, to support the work of the Senate.
She was asked to comment on the viral #WinRi trend pairing Gatchalian and Hontiveros for working closely together on important Senate matters.
Some even brought up a possible WinRi tandem in the 2028 national elections.
"SP Gatchalian is strong on his own merits," Hontiveros said in a chance interview during a break on the Senate special session called by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
"Lahat kami sa majority fought para mahalal namin sya (All of us in the majority fought [hard] in order to elect him [as Senate president]," Hontiveros said on Wednesday.
"Kung may mga kababayan tayo na natutuwa sa akin, natutuwa kay SP at dahil doon mas interesado sila sa trabaho namin at ng Senate nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila [If we have fellowmen who are fond of me, fond of SP, and because of that they are more interested in our work in the Senate, I thank them)," she said.
"Hello sa mga 'Winners.' Please, ipagpatuloy nyo ang pagsubaybay at pagsuporta sa trabaho ng Senate (continue on supporring the work of the Senate)," Hontiveros added.
