Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda today asserted that the Congress would register a clean sweep in all three municipal corporation elections scheduled for May 10.

“The Congress will secure a landslide victory with a massive majority in all three municipal corporation polls, as the BJP has utterly failed to address civic issues across the state. People are fed up with its erroneous policies and will teach it a lesson by defeating its candidates in the civic elections,” Hooda said while addressing mediapersons here.

Reacting to the recently declared Assembly poll results in five states, Hooda alleged that elections in West Bengal and Assam were not conducted in a fair manner and questioned the role of the Election Commission. He, however, pointed out that the Congress had formed a government with an absolute majority in Kerala and was part of a coalition government in Tamil Nadu.

Replying to a query on rising prices, Hooda said the government had sharply increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders.

“Prices had already risen by Rs 115 in March and by Rs 195.50 in April. Thus, in a mere three months, the price of a commercial cylinder has surged by approximately Rs 1,303. Today, the price of a commercial cylinder stands at Rs 3,071, whereas during the tenure of the Congress (UPA) government, the very same cylinder was available for Rs 1,200. The BJP had promised to curb inflation prior to assuming power; instead, they have tripled the prices of every essential commodity,” he stated.
