- The incident, which occurred around 2.30pm local time, was caused by the rupture of a high-pressure steam tube, with four workers dying instantly and nine later succumbing to their injuries.
- The affected workers were employed by NTPC GE Power Services, a subcontractor responsible for operating and maintaining the boiler unit.
- India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced compensation of £1,800 for the families of each deceased worker and £450 for each injured person.
- Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also announced £4,500 in compensation for the families of the dead and ordered a high-level inquiry into the industrial accident.
