Horses run for lives as Greece wildfire closes in behind them

Horses fled a wildfire northwest of Athens on Monday (August 3) as flames engulfed a field behind them.

The animals, near the settlement of Kandili, ran for their lives as the blaze, which was driven by winds, persisted in the area.

The horses were not harmed, according to local media that filmed them.

It comes after two firefighting helicopters collided in the settlement of Psatha over the weekend.

Wildfires have broken out in Europe during a summer of record-breaking heatwaves and little rain – conditions that scientists say climate change has exacerbated.
